One summer day, I used one of Ali’s kitchen knives to carve our names on it: “Amir and Hassan, the sultans of Kabul.”

Khaled Hosseini uses imagery to help express the relationship between Amir and Hassan. In every day life Amir and Hassan are not together because Amir is at school and Hassan is working at the house. Therefor Hosseini uses this tree to help depict that Amir and Hassan are still good friends.
